💬 What is Slack?

Slack is an organized online space for group or individual chats. Using Slack, you can easily send messages and post links, images, and other media. We chose Slack for our A+D Alumni Network due to its seamless ability to keep all of our communications on one unified platform.

Have more questions about Slack? Learn about the platform by visiting Slack’s website for more information and tutorials.

✅ What is this Alumni Slack Network for?

The SCSA Dept Art+Design Slack Network will provide a way for Art+Design graduates to connect and reconnect, share news and advice, job openings and services, and other networking opportunities. Our goal is to build community no matter where we may be in our lives or in the world. On the SCSA Dept. of Art+Design Slack Network, you can:

  • Get to know each other, network, and collaborate
  • Start conversations across disciplines
  • Share knowledge and common interests
  • Give advice and share career and artistic opportunities
  • Support each other through post-graduate life

❌ What is it NOT for?

  • Promoting irrelevant content unrelated to our SCSA community of artists and educators
  • Marketing products and services unrelated to our SCSA community of artists and educators
  • Organizing personal events or gatherings unrelated to our SCSA community of artists and educators
  • Inappropriate, disrespectful, or offensive content. We expect all in our community to use good judgment when posting content, including any images, memes, or external links. Please help us ensure a welcoming and supportive environment for everyone.

If you have any concerns about content posted or perpetuated on the Slack Network, please reach out via the Alumni Form. Members who violate guidelines may be asked to leave the Slack Network and all inappropriate content will be removed.

#️⃣ Open Channels

Group chats on Slack are called “channels.” Open channels are focused on particular topics, groups, or themes. All members can participate with and see shared content on open channels. The channels for our A+D Network are:

👋 #introductions
introduce yourself to the Network and share your artistic background

📣 #announcements
general A+D news and announcements will be posted here by A+D staff (this is the default channel all members are automatically added to)

✋ #asking-for-a-friend
ask questions, request recommendations on advice, vendors, etc

🎉 #events
for public events that might interest Alumni participation

🗞️ #hype-up
hype up your fellow grads by sharing exciting news about THEM––whether it be their latest publication, an article about their work, or other career successes they may have

✨ #opportunities
post any job opportunities, calls for submissions, etc, that might be of interest to the A+D community

💦  #water-cooler
informal spot for sharing ideas, resources, WIP images, etc

When using a specific channel, please be mindful of the channel theme. If your comments and/or conversations may not be relevant to that particular channel, consider switching channels or starting an individual chat to help keep themed spaces organized.

#️⃣ Graduation Class Channels

In addition, we also have our graduation cohort channels where you’ll be added to your graduating year’s channel. This space is open for conversation, connection, and collaboration.

#️⃣ Program-Specific Channels

In addition, we also have our program-specific channels. Every Art+Design program is represented, and each channel is not only for alumni of that program, but anyone who may be working in that space currently. You’ll automatically be placed into the ones related to your degrees of study, but you can join any of them at any point. Each space is open for conversation, connection, and collaboration.

On Slack, you can also directly message any member of the community. Direct messages are private and cannot be viewed by other Network members unless they are invited into the conversation. The same code of conduct and respect is expected in direct messages to help keep our community safe.
