About



Bio

Holly Schlater is an Instructor of Art Education in the South Carolina School of the Arts at Anderson University, where she teaches Elementary Art Methods, Pre-Clinical/Clinical Senior Seminar, and additional coursework supporting future K–12 art educators. She also serves as the faculty advisor for Anderson University’s student chapter of the National Art Education Association (NAEA), mentoring preservice teachers through professional development, state conferences, and community engagement.

In addition to her university role, Holly is a current art educator at Midway Elementary School and has taught middle school art, as well as summer art programs at Southwood Academy of the Arts. Her background includes extensive experience working with general education and special education populations through standards-based, developmentally appropriate studio instruction.

She holds a BFA in Drawing and Painting with a second major in Psychology from the University of Southern Mississippi and an MAE in Art Education with a studio emphasis in Painting and Printmaking. She has taught fine art courses at Winthrop University and brings over a !5 years of experience in K–12 visual art, curriculum design, and arts integration.

Holly maintains an active studio practice in painting and mixed media.  Since graduating, she has consistently exhibited her work in galleries in the southeast, and she continues to pursue creative opportunities within the community. She has or is currently represented by Hodges Taylor Gallery (Charlotte, NC), Carol Robinson Gallery (New Orleans, LA) and Main Street Gallery (Clayton, GA) She was also selected to complete 3 large-scale murals and over fifty original pieces for Levine Children’s Hospital in Charlotte, NC.

Her teaching emphasizes creativity, visual literacy, reflective practice, and inclusive instructional strategies that prepare future art educators to design engaging, student-centered classrooms.
